Thoughts as I grow and learn

Courage, where do you find yours?

In December after getting my iPhone, I started looking for apps that I may want to use.  I looked at apps for fun and for work and productivity and then I started looking for an app for my faith.  When I was looking at this last one, I ran across the website www.youversion.com.  On this website and app, you can sign up to sync the two.  Part of this app is plans for reading the Bible in various time frames, so I found one and decided to read the Bible in one year.  If it takes really takes 21 days to make a habit, then I have added a new good habit.

This week as part of my reading plan, I read and studied Moses in Exodus Chapter 3.  This chapter really had me thinking all day.  In verse 11, I was struck by Moses’ question asking who am I to do these things?  It was his questioning of his ability and worthiness that stuck with me this week.  He seems to have a running dialog (conversation) with God about what to do.  And I’m sure that each time, he had similar questions or fears, but inspite of all of his questions, he found the courage to do what God asked anyway.  Then to add to that on Sunday in our Sunday School Class, we talked about David and his growth and running conversation with God in 1 Samuel, there were plenty of times during this story that David, had to muster up the courage to do what he was asked to do.

In both of these instances I think we can relate to their hesitation, fear and questions about doing what they were being asked to do.  They were no different from you and I, in that they were scared to make that next step and get out of that comfort zone.  The difference is that they did it anyway.  They listened and obeyed God and did it anyway.  And for this they were rewarded.

We have to be willing to do things anyway, in spite of out fear.  As I have heard numerous times, it will take courage to do it, but you will be rewarded.  It may not be today or tomorrow, but you will get your reward.

These two stories have been on my mind and have given me a lot of encouragement.  It gives me strength and courage to keep going each day and just get better.

Let courage be that driving force in you to keep going.  When things get uncomfortable, and they will, just look bad at these two men and draw on their courage to act anyway.
